Denali National Park and Preserve, AK

July 2008 Alaska-

My sister Bethany and her husband Brian live in Fairbanks, Alaska. Brian is a helicopter pilot in the Army. My mother and I took a trip to visit them. It was the first time she and I traveled together with just the two of us. That alone make this a special trip.

Alaska is a amazing. In July, the days are long. Sunrise is at 3:00 AM and sunset is 12:30 PM. For those 2 1/2 hours it really never gets completely dark. It took a few days to adjust.

We flew into Fairbanks. We drove to Denali National Park where we camped and took a guided whitewater rafting trip down the Nenana River. We drove to Valdez where we fished for Salmon in Prince William Sound. (A sound is a relatively narrow passage of water between larger bodies of water or between the mainland and an island). Afterward we returned to Fairbanks and for the flight home to Austin.
